
12 Tips for Self-Care After a Permanent Hair Transplant

- Spray saline solution every hour for 5 days (except while sleeping)
- During the first 7 days, apply olive oil to soften scabs, followed by shampooing and light therapy
- Take hair growth stimulants as prescribed by your doctor
- Take pain relievers and antibiotics as directed
- Avoid activities that cause sweating or intense exercise for 1 week
- Wear a head wrap to protect from dust, wind, and sunlight for 1 week when going outside
- Avoid alcohol and smoking for 2 weeks
- Avoid scratching or bumping the transplanted area
- Avoid bending forward to prevent facial swelling
- Haircuts are allowed after 1 week (FUE) or 1 month (FUT)
- Avoid swimming for 1 month
- Avoid diving or exposure to extreme heat or cold for 4 months
Notes:
- It’s normal to experience some pimples after a hair transplant. Your doctor will provide guidance.
- For FUE, patients are scheduled for shampooing and light therapy for 7 days. If unavailable, you may shampoo at home using Hibiscrub antiseptic shampoo. A shampoo tutorial is provided on day 1 post-op.
- For FUT, wound care appointments are scheduled between days 7–14 until the stitches are removed (Off Max Day).
