FUT Hair Transplant

Surgical Follicle Relocation for Long-Term Density

FUT Procedure Steps

  1. Treatment planning and selection of strong donor follicles from the occipital area
  2. Shaving the donor area slightly for surgical mapping
  3. Local anesthesia is administered—patients feel no pain once it takes effect
  4. Physician performs surgical excision: incision width 1–4 cm, length 10–20 cm depending on case
  5. The excised skin is preserved in optimal condition, then sutured for clean closure
  6. Hair follicles are separated and selected based on graft quantity and strength
  7. Local anesthesia is applied to the recipient area, followed by micro-incisions for graft placement—each follicle is implanted individually

Who Is FUT Suitable For?

  • Individuals with moderate to severe thinning or baldness
  • Those who prefer not to shave the donor area
  • Those who want scars hidden under existing hair and to resume daily life normally

Procedure Duration

  • Approximately 6–10 hours
  • Scabs may appear for 2 weeks; hair begins growing at 4 months and full results are visible at 1 year

Possible Side Effects (less than 1% chance)

  • Minor acne at the transplant site
  • Mild forehead swelling for 2–3 days depending on individual response

Recovery Time

  • Just 1 day of rest
  • Hair wash at the clinic on Day 1; self-washing allowed afterward
  • Sutures removed after 2 weeks
  • Surgical wound fully heals in 1 month

Frequently Asked Questions about FUT Hair Transplant

What causes hair thinning and baldness?

Hair thinning or baldness is primarily caused by genetics. However, hair loss can also occur naturally in daily life due to lifestyle or health factors. The causes of hair thinning and baldness can be divided into three categories:

  1. Behavioral Factors
Daily lifestyle indirectly affects hair strength, such as shampooing, diet, chemical use on hair, or weather conditions. These factors can impact hair health in the long term. It is normal to lose 100–200 hairs per day. However, if abnormal hair loss occurs to the extent that the scalp becomes visible, consultation with a specialist physician is recommended immediately.
  2. Health Factors
Abnormal hair thinning may reflect hormonal changes such as pregnancy, childbirth, aging, or medical conditions including thyroid disease, scalp disorders, or chronic illnesses requiring antibiotics, which may cause hormonal side effects leading to hair loss.
  3. Genetic Factors
Genetic hair thinning or baldness is caused by the hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a male hormone responsible for male characteristics such as deep voice or body hair. Excessive levels of this hormone weaken hair follicles at the front and crown of the scalp, causing hair loss and baldness. Only the back of the scalp, known as the “Safe Zone”, is unaffected by DHT.

Before undergoing hair transplantation at BLS Hair Center, hair transplant specialists will conduct an initial evaluation of the patient’s condition and treatment options to plan the procedure. The treatment steps depend on the physician’s diagnosis. Full details of the FUT hair transplant procedure can be found here.

Patients with hair thinning or baldness due to lifestyle or genetics may be candidates. However, not all cases require surgical treatment alone; non-surgical procedures or medication may also be used depending on the physician’s diagnosis.

Surgical treatment requires 1 day of recovery, with surgical wounds healing within 1 month. For non-surgical treatments, no recovery time is needed. Some patients may experience minor swelling or bruising, but can continue daily activities normally.

Hair transplantation using follicular cell relocation provides permanent results, with new hair growth visible from 3 months onward. Hair becomes stronger over time. For non-surgical treatments such as follicle-stimulating injections for hair loss or thinning, monthly sessions are recommended during the first 3 months. To achieve clearer and longer-lasting results, continued treatment every 3–6 months is advised.
